We here on Oppo often are fond of cars. To the point, when they became something else. One of those is giving a car a nickname, so that’s what I’m asking today. Have you ever given a car you owned or a car a friend owns, a nickname, be it affectionate or derogatory?
In my case, it’s not my car, but rather a friend’s. My friend Jack drives a 2004 Ford Expedition that used to be his parents. His car looks similar to the one pictured above, only sort of rougher looking. Due to the car’s size, white color, and traditional SUV characteristics, my friend Chris and I affectionately refer to the Expedition as The Farming Silo. All in good fun of course

A friend of the family had an early 70s Blazer much like this one, but much more ragged and threadbare:
Unsurprisingly its nickname was Booger.

My friend has a ‘73 chevy truck that’s green and everyone calls it “the green truck” which was confusing because i had a ‘97 gmc truck that was also green and called “the green truck”.

My older sister’s Volvo, if memory serves, was named Gertrude. Looked like this. This is of course getting out of nicknames into proper names, which is going off topic a little.

I’m a namer. My jeep is named Samsquanch, after the legendary Nova Scotian missing link. My motorcycles have been a progression of Slightly Dangerous (on SD II at the moment), after my grandfather’s bomber in WW2.
Before that I had the Lonely Bus (a suburban), and El Honda Grande (an Accord) for named vehicles.

The Safari is called the Shitfari, a name I'm pretty sure started on Oppo. The M3 is called Emma but that's more a proper name.

I refer to my cars as the model names. The Equinox, the metro, the jeep, the rabbit. Exception being jeep (Cherokee) & other rabbit that is black, I kind of call it black jack, but neither rabbit runs, so I rarely talk about them.

My car friends, girlfriend and I sometimes call my car Alexus. Yes, it is a Lexus and she has 293,000+ miles. I’ve had it since I started to drive six and a half years ago.

I named my friend’s black ‘83 380SEL (with a euro 5.6 and LSD rear installed) Battlestar Galactica, or just Battlestar. It was often sideways.

I’ve only named one vehicle I’ve ever owned, my present 2013 Ford Escape which I named Mattie after our own lovely Matt Hardigree. Matt drove one and posted a review on it. I told him I was thinking about buying a Ford Edge, but the Escape sounded pretty neat. He recommended to that I get the Escape. I took his advice, and I love my Mattie.

Occasionally known as the “Black Magic Trans Am”, origin being a point to point race in which it came over an overpass (where a competitor was stopped at a light) at about a buck thirty.

My 87' Ranger was the only car that I owned that had the type of “personality” that warranted a name. Tan Stan he was.
My Fiancee has named her Cooper S “Helen”.

The first was nicknamed various things based on police connotations or the fact it was a full size.
The second one was nicknamed the Bad Ass Beastie (BAB) in the last year and a half I owned it after I moved everything I owned 1200 miles with it towing a trailer. It was a tiny little coupe and absolutely bulletproof in every way. It climbed mountains with that trailer like a boss and still got respectable gas mileage.
Third is simply The Land Yacht.
Fourth may be “White Snake”, because it is white and the letters in the license plate are the name of a snake.
My dad’s “Twinkie Van” (1970 VW T2) was sometimes called the “Baby Box”, because of all the kids in my family. My mom’s van was “The Vanus”. Honestly, we’re not that creative.

Never any car with a positive nickname, but my parents once had an awful Citroen minivan called the tank; not because it was strong; more because it was slow, way bigger than we needed and was a pain to drive and park. Somehow, it's still on the road and I see it sometimes

My 87 dodge K car was the “Rally K” because of questionable suspension mods and my tendency to drive in fields with it.
1987 jeep wagoneer was hank Williams because I kept getting out of tickets with it, my friends are either super ironic or miss under stood the lyrics of I fought the law..
All my Sevilles have been the USS CHROME
other than that they more or less have just been called POS

I named my car Maera, after a dog in Greek mythology. Loyal to the end until its master died, overcome with grief it jumped off a cliff. Dionysus would eventually turn it into the star procyon. The dog star before Sirius. I picked it because it seemed fitting as the car was reliable but its resale value will most likely drop like a rock which is why I have no plans on selling it. It will like the star it is named after be used to light and navigate my way through the world.
